Healthy Living pharmacies

Pharmacists Jon and Emma at a Healthy Living Pharmacy Event

We are busy setting our branches up as healthy living pharmacies. This means that our pharmacies will meet certain public health standards. Public health is a term used to describe considering the health of a whole community. We will focus on the needs of the community around each of our branches. So the exact details will be unique to each branch. We are working with our branch managers to consider health promotion topics for each branch. You can find out more about the health in your local community by downloading your local health profile.

What changes can you expect?

We already meet many of the criteria to become Healthy Living Pharmacies. For example when you attend a medication review, our pharmacists may give you information about what life-style changes you can meet to reduce your health risks. We will be setting up health promotion zones in our pharmacies. These are areas where we will display posters and leaflets that promote health. We will also continue to provide information on life-style on our website, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Our staff are working to collate information about other organisations and services in your locality that can help your health and wellbeing. These include smoking cessation services, weight loss and slimming groups as well as ways to help you to keep active or exercise locally.  So if you have any recommendations please let us know.

We want to support you to be healthy in a sensitive manner. We are here to give you support and options. You might find it very difficult to make life-style changes so we recommend that you do this at a time that is right for you. Not everyone wants to discuss their health or life-style publically. All of our branches have consultation rooms. If you want to speak to us privately just let our staff know.

Working with organisations in your community to promote health

We can provide health information and health promotion services to organisations and groups of people. For example recently staff from our Ruddington branch visited local playgroups to discuss the support that pharmacies could offer to parents and carers of young children. In addition, staff at our Cotmanhay branch are grateful to local primary schools who cascaded information about access to NHS treatment for minor ailments. We are also pleased to provide regular village newsletter articles in Ruddington and West Hallam. As well as giving you information, we can provide vaccines for groups of people in your school or work place.
