Report a problem with a medicine or device

The Medicines Regulatory Agency are encouraging us to tell more people how to report a problem. If you have a problem with a medicine or device then you can report this. You should do this as soon as possible. The problems that you might report about medicines include:

  • side effects
  • a medicine doesn’t work properly
  • you think a medicine or medical device is fake or counterfeit
  • a medicine is of a poor quality

Anyone can report a problem

You do not need to be a healthcare professional to report a problem. Patients and carers can report problems too. Click here to make a report. This system is available for patients in England. There are other schemes for different parts of the UK. However, if you find it difficult to report a problem, the staff in our pharmacies would be happy to help you.

Seek advice as well as making a report

Reporting a problem using this scheme does not replace medical advice. If you experience a problem with your medicines, come in and speak to one of our staff so that we can give you some advice.

What happens next

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the manufacturer or a medical specialist may investigate the problem depending on how serious it is. It’ll be recorded to help prevent similar incidents in future, even if it’s not investigated.

You’ll receive a confirmation of your report. You’ll be contacted if you need to provide more information.

So if you are having problems with your medicine make a report and come and see us for further advice.
