Have I left it too late to get travel vaccines?

Many people worry that it they have left it too late to have a travel vaccine. Ideally it is best to be vaccinated as early as possible, but this is not always possible due to work and/or family commitments. Even if you have a vaccine on the day of travel it is better than not having a vaccine at all. This is because you produce antibodies from the day that you are vaccinated.

 

Does it matter if have left it too late to complete the full course of vaccines before I travel?

To get the full benefit from your vaccination(s) the course needs to be completed before you travel. However, certain vaccines, including Rabies and Hepatitis B, can be given on a faster or accelerated schedule. Please ask your pharmacist for further advice. It is better to have some vaccinations than nothing at all.

 

How long does it take to get the full benefit of a travel vaccine?
