Hepatitis B vaccines available

There are reports online of shortages of hepatitis B vaccines. We have stocks of this vaccine available to give in our branches. So there is no need for you to delay your vaccination. The post gives you more information.

Who needs a hepatitis B vaccine?

You may be advised to have a vaccine for a range of reasons, these include the situations described below.

Your employer might advise you to have a hepatitis B vaccine, if your job puts you at a higher risk of catching hepatitis B. Jobs where this is recommended include:

  • Healthcare workers including students and trainees
  • Laboratory staff
  • Staff at residential accommodation for people with learning disabilities
  • Prison service staff
  • Those working in fire, police and rescue services.

People traveling to areas of hepatitis B risk should also consider vaccination. Our pharmacists will be able to advise you. Please book an appointment online or contact us to find out more.

The NHS does not fund hepatitis B vaccines for travel or occupational reasons.

Is hepatitis B offered as part of the NHS vaccine programme?

The hepatitis B vaccine has been included in the NHS programme since late 2017. It is normally given to children between eight and sixteen weeks old. So this means that children who are over one year of age and adults have not been routinely vaccinated.
