Behind the scenes – sourcing your medicines

Have you ever wondered how we source your medicines? We have a team of buyers lead by Lorraine, a specialist pharmacy technician. We stock the top 200 medicines used in our pharmacies in our own warehouse. Medicines from our own warehouse are picked by our own staff and sent out regularly to our pharmacies.

For other items we use three different wholesalers. This means that our pharmacies get six deliveries a day! So if we order a medicine first thing in the morning then it will often arrive in the pharmacy later that day. We also have a another specialist wholesaler that supplies our pharmacies with dressings and appliances.  

Specials medicines

Specials medicines are medicines that need to be made up for a specific patient. Lorraine and her team support our pharmacy staff to source these. When we buy specials we first look to ensure that the product is of high quality and suitable for the individual patient. We also need to ensure that we purchase medicines that are good value for the local NHS.
